Why this role exists
SomX is a communications and creative agency purpose‑built for healthcare. We blend clinical and scientific expertise with brand, PR, content, design, events and media production to help innovative companies earn attention, build trust and grow. You’ll join the PR team at the heart of integrated campaigns—working closely with strategy, content, design and multimedia to turn complex science into clear, compelling stories that land with the right audiences.
What you’ll do (the work)
Media relations and press office – Build and maintain journalist relationships across healthtech/biotech, national, business, policy and trade media. Own media lists, pitch angles, arrange interviews/briefings, manage inquiries and embargoes.
Story development – Shape narratives and angles from client strategy and data. Draft press releases, media notes, Q&As, statements, op‑eds and thought‑leadership in plain, precise English.
Integrated earned campaigns – Partner with content, design and multimedia to package stories (infographics, short video, founder profiles, research explainers) and maximise pickup across channels.
Executive visibility – Support founders/clinical leaders with bylines, conference speaking abstracts, award entries and social narrative (esp. LinkedIn) aligned to business goals.
Event PR – Plan pre‑event announcements, on‑site press handling and post‑event follow‑ups for launches, funding milestones, clinical results and partnerships.
Monitoring and measurement – Track coverage quality (tier, message pull‑through, backlinks), share of voice vs named peers, and real outcomes (inbound activity, partnership conversations, hiring signals). Turn results into clear monthly and campaign reports.
Account management – Run status meetings, maintain actions/risks, keep budgets/time trackers tidy, and ensure work is delivered on time and to spec.
Stakeholder orchestration – Liaise with clinicians, scientists, product, policy and commercial teams. Coordinate with partners (NHS bodies, accelerators, VCs) when relevant.
Quality and compliance – Uphold approval workflows and relevant guidelines (e.g., pharma and patient comms
What you’ll bring (the essentials)
3–5+ years’ PR experience with demonstrable results in healthcare, science, technology or highly regulated sectors (agency experience preferred).
A strong UK media sense and a live contact book across at least one of: national/business, health policy, tech/venture, or specialist trade titles.
Outstanding writing – from crisp releases to nuanced op‑eds and technical explainers; rigorous editing and fact‑checking.
News judgement – You can spot angles, craft timely commentary, and translate complex clinical or technical ideas into stories people actually want to cover.
Calm in the grey – Comfortable handling sensitive topics and fast‑moving situations with discretion and clear thinking.
Organised operator – Solid project management, stakeholder management and attention to detail; confident running multiple accounts.
Data‑literate – Competent with coverage tracking and analysis; able to turn metrics into insight and action.
Tools – Working familiarity with media databases/monitoring and social listening (e.g., Meltwater/Roxhill/Muck Rack), G‑Suite, and basic SEO/analytics.
Nice to have
Background in life sciences, medicine, policy or health economics, or proven ability to work deeply with technical subject matter experts.
Experience with thought‑leadership programmes for founders/clinical leaders.
Familiarity with ABPI/EFPIA or similar codes and medical/legal/regulatory (MLR) processes.
Event press operations or broadcast/podcast booking experience.
Crisis communications training and scenario planning.
