SomX is a communications and creative agency elevating healthcare. We are clinicians, scientists, creatives and communicators dedicated to serving our healthtech, biotech and pharma clients.

You shouldn't need to teach your agency about deep science or technology and you shouldn't have to watch them underdeliver as a result. We started SomX out of the need for an agency of healthcare-specific communications experts that were trained scientists and clinicians that understand the nuance of our sector. It didn't exist, so we created one.

Our mission is to elevate healthcare through communication and community. Through personalised, effective comms strategies, we bridge the gap between healthtech innovations and those who benefit from them. We drive impact through strategic storytelling, powerful branding, and targeted engagement. We know what healthcare companies need. We aren't afraid to be bold in our delivery.

James Somauroo
Cofounder & CEO
James is CEO of SomX, a healthtech contributor for Forbes, host of The Healthtech Podcast which has listeners in over 120 countries and Editor In-Chief of Healthtech Pigeon. James is an anaesthetics and ICU doctor by background and held roles in policy and innovation at NHS England, Health Education England and the BMJ. He directed the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator helping healthtech companies with market access to the NHS and was a Founding Partner at HS.Ventures, which built, scaled and invested in seed-stage healthtech startups.

Jessica Smith
Cofounder & CXO
Jessica is co-founder & CXO of SomX and heads up client experience and public relations. Previously an Associate Director at global agency FleishmanHillard, Jessica has broad experience in healthcare communications across NHS, corporate, charity, healthtech and pharma industry clients. She specialises in building and leading teams that design and deliver integrated and targeted communications strategies that speak to the vast array of audiences within healthcare, ranging from healthcare professionals and policy-makers, through to patients and consumers.



Belle Taylor
Associate Director
A flame-chemist turned communicator, Belle leads on client services and strategic marketing – working closely with SomX’s account teams to deliver impactful strategy, content, PR and creative. She brings experience working across healthtech, biotech, artificial intelligence and academia.

Fred Kirby
Design Director
Great ideas are owed great design. Fred shapes your brand aesthetic to your company message and delivers all the visual assets you need to best convey your message.

Elin Yapp-Hayhurst
Account Director
Elin brings over a decade of experience in healthcare communications, spanning oncology, neuroscience, and women’s health. With a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Science, Media and Communications, she now manages client accounts at SomX, combining strategic insight with creative execution to deliver meaningful content.

Imogen Quail
Senior Account Manager
Imogen has 8 years’ experience in PR across life sciences and biotech in the UK, US, and EMEA, and has a BA in Philosophy and Communications. She helps clients turn complex topics into clear, compelling stories through media relations, thought leadership, content, and strategic PR campaigns.
